Since the cause of Orthodox monasticism depends on a spiritual guide, an Elder, an effort began in 1991, on the initiative of His Eminence our Metropolitan of Petra and Cherronesos, Nektarios, to conserve and restore the building complex and to revive cenobitic monasticism in our region, which had long been deprived of it. The Abbess of the Monastery, Mother Chrysostomia, undertook the complete renovation of the Monastery.
The Monastery became a convent in 1997, and thanks to the energy of Abbess Chrysostomia numerous building works were carried out that transformed it. Notably, the beautiful stone three-aisled domed church of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women, in the Athonite Byzantine style, was built and is a jewel within the monastic complex. A new wing was also built on the southern side of the Monastery to meet its needs, harmoniously integrated with the old buildings. Today the nuns' main occupation is the painting of holy icons, along with the making of works of ecclesiastical art such as embroidered holy covers and vestments, prayer ropes and woven crosses, and the processing of herbs into traditional beeswax ointments, soaps and more.
