A miracle is something supernatural, independent of the natural laws and forces by which God governs the world. In many cases, as tradition has preserved for us, after the fervent prayers of the monastics, usurped lands were returned to the Monastery, and animals of the Monastery which rustlers had taken from time to time were brought back, after the Taxiarch himself had urged the thieves, in a wondrous way (through a dream), to return them. And they, contrite, confessed it to the sisters of the Monastery and handed over what they had stolen. (The turning of dream into reality, of the inconceivable into the conceivable, of the incomprehensible into the comprehensible, of the impossible into the possible: this transformation is what we call a miracle. In other words, every miracle is a manifestation of the divine will and of God's almighty presence.) Barren women, whom science had discouraged from hoping for a child, after fervent faith and prayer to the Taxiarchs have children, and many of them, according to their vow, give the child the name of the angels or baptise it in their Monastery. Many people with illnesses, often incurable, hasten to the Taxiarch, make prostrations before his icon and take a little oil from his lamp, and are completely healed. Others are miraculously saved from external dangers (such as road and air accidents) the moment they call upon the grace of the Taxiarch. All Christians, therefore, should hold the Taxiarch in special reverence, for he is the first whom our soul beholds when it departs from our body, and he carries our soul to the throne of God. We should therefore beseech him to come with a gentle countenance and to help us at the divine judgement before the holy tribunal of Christ, as his kontakion characteristically says:
Michael, Archangel of Christ, do not come upon me as a most savage lion, nor snatch away my soul like a sparrow at the hour of death, but help me.
